Stuff that makes me smile

I love comic strips. I have an account with mycomicspage.com. You can sign up for $12/year and get as many comic strips emailed to you daily as you like. It is great way to see old favorites and get to know new or different artists. They have everything from political cartoons to just plain silly.

A while back Diane got me hooked on a strip entitled 'Big Top' by Rob Harrell. Unfortunately for Mr. Harrell not enough papers picked up his strip and he was forced to stop writing/drawing 'Big Top.' It was a very sad day for me. Thanks to mycomicspage.com I can re-read the strip as often as I like. I hope Mr. Harrell is making at least a little money from them. I know I am happy to see Dusty, Pete, Wink et all back in my email.

I have been trying out a strip entitled 'Frog Applause' by Teresa Dowlatshahi. Truth be told I only 'get it' about 70% of the time but the ones that appeal to me...well lets just say they stick with me for days.

Below is a 'Frog Applause' strip I received today. It sums up the state of mind I'm attempting to embrace. Plus, it makes me smile.

Kel,
Your post made ME smile. Just curious, though... which strips stuck to you for days? (By the way, the name of the cane-carrying character in today's strip is Mr. Houston).

Thanks for reading my post! I hope you have more success than Big Top did. It must be frustrating trying to build an audience for your work when the masses just want re-runs of Peanuts. I've nothing against Charles Schultz in general, though I prefer the very early work over what he did later in life. I always liked Lucy and her Psychiatrist booth.

The Frog Applause I've enjoyed the most....there are more than a few. Here's some I recall:

"I ate all the gingerbread ninjas guarding the cookie Jar..."

"Foreboding landscape rife with danger...cuteness is no protection"

"refrain from whipping yourself into a frothy moral fury"

Other not so specific examples...

The Sisterhood of...

The hand shadow puppet .. There was one I didn't recall the specific punchline but it was something to do with arrogance or attitude. The day I received that strip I was dealing with a guy who has a particularly large ego and it summed up my day with him perfectly!

Looking forward to more...

Kelly,

Thank you for your kind words. Having fans like you is success enough for me.

The hand shadow character is a selfish, arrogant manipulator. Perhaps this is the gag:

"Manipulate, manipulate, whine, whine, whine. It's all about me and getting mine, mine, mine."

It's been a while since I've done any "The Sisterhood of..." gags. Don't be surprised if I dedicate the next one to you.

Frog Out,
Teresa
